My Scanguard Download Won't Start or Stops

If your download does not start, or it stops, please follow these instructions

  • Wait and try again later
  • Check your internet connection is stable and restart your router
  • Check you have enough disk space on your computer
  • Right-click the download link and Save Link As - you will be able to change the place the file is saved (the file name should be Scanguard_Setup.exe)
  • Try using a different browser

    Where is My Scanguard Download

    The default location of files being downloaded on Windows is the downloads folder.

    Follow these instructions to find your Scanguard download:

  • Open the Start Menu
  • Search for File Explorer
  • Click Downloads under Pinned items
  • Look for Scanguard or Scanguard Setup
  • Can't find your Scanguard Download? Click here to re-download.

    If your download does not start, or it stops, please follow these instructions

    Real-Time Protection Won't Enable

    Real-Time Protection runs in the background of your device and scans any file that you have downloaded, used, or opened. Real-Time Protection checks for virus-like behavior and will stop any suspicious activities, notifying you and stoping any files or malicious processes that could be harmful to your device.

    Uninstall Other Antivirus Applications

    If you have other Antivirus Applications installed with Real-Time Protection, they will end up working against each other and Real-Time Protection will not work.

    If you do not have any other Antivirus application installed go to step 5.

    To remove any other Antivirus Applications

    • Open Windows Start

    • Search for Add or remove programs

    • Go through the list and uninstall any other programs which are an Antivirus

    Uninstall Scanguard

    Now we have removed other Antivirus Applications, we can also remove Scanguard temporarily.

    • Type Scanguard in your Windows search bar

    • Right Click the Scanguard Application

    • Click Uninstall

    A new window should open with a list of applications.

    • Find Scanguard

    • Right click Scanguard

    • Click Uninstall / Change

    Restart Your PC

    Restarting the computer at this point will allow your system to fully uninstall and clean up after removing any software.

    Do this and continue with step .

    Reinstall Scanguard

    • Click Here To Download Scanguard
    • Open the Downloaded File within your browser

    • Click Yes to allow Scanguard to make changes to your device


    • Click Install

    • Wait for Scanguard to Install

    • Wait for Scanguard to Update


    Try enabling Real-Time Protection again. If it works, great! If not continue on.


    Uninstall Intel Rapid Storage

    • Open Scanguard

    • Click the Speedometer Icon

    • Click Application Uninstaller

    • Click Start Scan

    • Locate the Intel Rapid Storage application

    • Click the check box on the right-hand side

    • Click Uninstall Selected

    Uninstall Scanguard

    After removing Intel Rapid Storage, we need to also remove Scanguard temporarily.

    • Type Scanguard in your Windows search bar

    • Right Click the Scanguard Application

    • Click Uninstall

    A new window should open with a list of applications.

    • Find Scanguard

    • Right click Scanguard

    • Click Uninstall / Change

    Restart Your PC

    Restarting the computer at this point will allow your system to fully uninstall and clean up after removing any software.

    Do this and continue with step .

    Reinstall Scanguard

    • Click Here To Download Scanguard
    • Open the Downloaded File within your browser

    • Click Yes to allow
      to make changes to your device -

    • Click Install

    • Wait for Scanguard to Install

    • Wait for Scanguard to Update


    Try enabling Real-Time Protection again. If it works, great! If not continue on.


    Restart Background Services

    The background service PC Security Management Service may need to be enabled or restarted to fix your Real-Time Protection problem.

    To do so, follow these steps:

    • Click the Start/Windows button.

    • Type services.msc in the Windows search bar and click Run As Administrator

    • Right-click PC Security Management Service > Properties

    • Click on the Recovery Tab

    • Set First, Second and Subsequent Failures to Restart the Service

    • Click Apply > OK

    • Open the Scanguard application and click Enable Protection

    Try enabling Real-Time Protection again. If it works, great! If not continue on.


    Check Windows Defender is disabled

    On most modern-day Windows devices, Microsoft Defender will come preinstalled. Microsoft Defender will end up causing conflict with Scanguard and we would recommend disabling it. To disable Microsoft Defender follow these instructions:

    • Click the Windows icon/Start button

    • Click the settings cog

    • Click Update & Security

    • Click Windows Security

    • Click Virus & Threat Protection

    • Locate Microsoft Defender

    • Toggle Off Periodic Scanning

    Where Are My Paid Features?

    You may have downloaded the free version of Scanguard even though you have a paid subscription. As it is the free version of Scanguard you will not have access to your premium features. If you have a paid account, to access your premium features, you simply have to log in.

    To log in and activate your new features follow these instructions:

    Open Scanguard

  • Open Scanguard
  • Click Login button on the top right-hand corner
  • Enter Login Details

  • Enter your Email Address
  • Enter your Password
  • Click Login
  • You should now have access to all the features within your paid account.

    Help With Licenses

    A license will be used every time you login for the first with your Scanguard subscription on a Windows, macOS®, Android, or iOS® device

    If you would like to purchase additional licenses you can do in our marketplace. Please allow up to 15 minutes for your licenses to activate on your account.

    If you would like to manage your licenses, you can do so by visiting our device dashboard. From here you will be able to:

  • Check which devices a license is applied to
  • Remove a license from a device
  • Add more devices
  • Check the device details
  • If you remove a license, the device will default to the free version of Scanguard

    Real-Time Protection Won't Enable

    When you first install Scanguard on Mac, you will need to set up Real-Time Protection. We have made this as simple as possible. To enable Real-Time Protection follow these instructions:


    Open Scanguard

    Open the Scanguard Application

  • Click Dashboard
  • Click Enable
  • Click Install
  • Open System Preferences
  • Allow Permisions

  • Click Open Security Preferences
  • Click the Lock Icon
  • Enter your Mac's Password
  • Click Unlock
  • Click Allow
  • Enable Real-Time Protection

    Go to the Scanguard Application

  • Click Next > Open System Preferences
  • Click Scanguard Real-Time Protection 5
  • Click Complete Setup

    Where Are My Paid Features?

    You may have downloaded the free version of Scanguard even though you have a paid subscription. As it is the free version of Scanguard you will not have access to your premium features. If you have a paid account, to access your premium features, you simply have to log in.

    To log in and activate your new features follow these instructions:

    Open Scanguard

  • Open Scanguard
  • Click Login button on the top right-hand corner
  • Enter Login Details

  • Enter your Email Address
  • Enter your Password
  • Click Login
  • You should now have access to all the features within your paid account.
